Yesterday I was thinking of the many times in which I used to dream of having a fit body.
I remembered when I used to believe that it would be just impossible to fit again into my old size 7 jeans. I was wearing size 18 jeans at the time and even at that size it was hard to breathe because they were so tight, so the idea of wearing my old size 7 jeans seemed crazy.
How crazy was I to even think that I could possible fit again into my old size 7 jeans? Not that crazy! The truth is, that not only did I managed to wear my old size 7 jeans, but in less than two years I was wearing size 5 jeans!
Now let me ask you something. Are you like I was? Do you fantasize about getting in shape again?
But why is that? Is it because you want to be healthy again or because you want to look good?
Your answer is irrelevant. The important thing is that whatever your reason is when you start to lose weight you will tap into your new found health.
I’m sure you have heard more than once people telling you to eat less and exercise more and you will start to lose weight. Just that easy. Right?
It sounds like a never ending platitude masquerading as wisdom…But what if your life depends on your decision?
What if there was a guy with a gun threatening to put an end to your life if you didn’t lose weight in the next 30 days?
You can bet your booty I’m not only going to lose the weight.
I’m NOT going to wing it and hope that somehow the pounds melt away.
I’m going to make it happen. And, I’m certain you would too.
That’s how the situation felt when I first started on my weight loss path in 2010.
There weren’t any gunmen forcing me to get results, but there was a soul-draining heavy body pushing me down, and I had no idea of how I was going to make it lighter.
There were times full of disappointment, depression, irritability, exhaustion, pain… and a newly given diagnosis of high blood pressure in my face.
It felt like being thrown in the deep end.
Either I would start to lose weight…or I was done. No more fantasizing about getting in shape again.
There was no other option.
In that situation, you can’t even think clearly about how you are going to make it happen.
All you know is you need to start making it happen…and fast.
So what would be your decision if your life depends on losing the weight? If your life depended on getting in shape? Because I’m sorry to tell you, that if you continue on the same path you are now, at some point that will be your reality too. Continuing on the same path of gaining pound after pound every year will take a big tow in your health. Or chances are that you are already experiencing it.
So where do you start? Get motivated, think about the future with a set of new eyes, a positive you…
Start working in your mindset, eat healthier, become a little more active and stick to a routine as much as you can. All those things will help you to start moving in the right direction.
I promise you, you will get there if you do just that because at some point it will be part of the new your. But you have to do it yourself because no one is going to do it for you.
Don’t put it off until it’s too late, and you get to a point of no return.
Where will you be a year from now? Only you have the power to make the change, and believe me, you can.
To a healthier you,
Dr. Mayra Alfonso
